Economy Middle East witnessed the launch of the brand new SF90 XX STRADALE and SF90 XX SPIDER at an exclusive reveal at the Italian marques private circuit in Fiorano.
The pair proudly combine the characteristics of the Special Series and the XX programs resulting in the first road-going cars in the XX programme. The SF90 XX STRADALE and the SF90 XX SPIDER will be produced in a very limited capacity, just 799 of the former and 599 of the latter will hit the tarmac. All have been allocated to discerning Ferrari clients, with deliveries expected in Q2 2024 for the SF90 XX STRADALE and Q4 for the SF90 XX SPIDER.
While the original SF90 Stradale launched in 2019 serves as the donor car, the new iterations push performance and driving experience to unparallel horizons. Performance is boosted thanks to advanced software logics and enhanced aerodynamics, including the fixed rear spoiler that has not been seen on a road-going Ferrari since the iconic F50. It delivers an impressive 530 kg of downforce at 250 km/h, resulting in improved grip and faster lap times. The SF90 XX STRADALE also delivers the most efficient aerodynamic performance of any road-going car in Ferrari’s history, making it comparable to the LaFerrari supercar. In addition to thrilling performance, the SF90 XX STRADALE’s soundtrack was redesigned meticulously to bring out the car’s racing soul and transmits the combustion pulsations into the cabin with higher frequencies so the driver and passenger alike can enjoy a rich explosion of Ferrari’s V8 symphony.
The Engine and Gear Box
The SF90 XX STRADALE carries the same PHEV layout found in the donor car where Ferrari has managed to reach perfect harmony between internal combustion and the three electric motors. Two of which are independent on the front axle, and one located between the engine and gearbox to the rear. The 4 Litre V8 Turbo in the SF90 XX STRADALE and SPIDER variations carries 30 more bhp than the SF90 STRADALE, amounting to a whopping 1030 bhp.
On the one hand, the mid-rear mounted V8 turbo internal combustion engine produces a massive 797 bhp with its efficiency raised significantly compared to the donor car by polishing the inlet and exhaust ducts as well as an increase in the compression ratio with the adoption of new pistons and specific machining of the combustion chamber. Ferrari have managed to save an essential 3.5 kg of weight from the engine.
The three electric motors, deliver a healthy 233 bhp with the first time patented extra boost vehicle dynamics logic. The high-performance lithium-ion battery provides the car with a 25km range in full-electric mode and when the ICE is off, the front motors give the car a maximum speed of 135 km/h.
There are four different power management modes can be controlled from the eManettino. These include eDrive mode, where the internal combustion engine is turned off and the car is propelled entirely from the front axle. The Hybrid mode is self-explanatory, it does however maximise the full-electric range. In Performance mode, the internal combustion is at the forefront to ensure consistent performance and when Qualifying is engaged, the array of complex system open up maximum power output with the brand-new extra boost function to deliver unparallel exhilarating driving experience fit for the race track.
While both cars carry the 8-speed dual-clutch DCT gearbox from the original SF90 Stradale, the gear-shift logic has changed significantly. The SF90 XX STRADALE and SPIDER now use the patented logic first introduced on the iconic Ferrari Daytona SP3. This allows increased dynamic acceleration and improves the gear-shift sound.
The perfect combination of the PHEV and internal combustion will propel the SF90 XX STRADALE from 0-100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds and 0-200 in just 6.5 seconds, with a top speed of 320 km/h.
The Exterior and Interior
The SF90 XX STRADALE is the result of the Ferrari Styling Centre headed by Flavio Manzoni and the Technical Department. Carbon-fibre elements stand out from bodywork across the car, as do the larger exposed air intakes and vents, all add up to a radical and bold design language. To the front stands the arrow-shaped front wing concept and the headlights now have an even lower upper profile which are integrated into this area by two external vertical wing profiles.
Perhaps the most imposing characteristic of the SF90 XX STRADALE is the fixed wing, giving it the long tail silhouette associated with racing cars. The rear of the car is characterised by the trimaran design of the tail. Compared to the SF90 Stradale, the SF90 XX STRADALE features more imposing rear vents behind the wheels. The trimaran section also incorporates two central exhausts. Design-wise, the aim here was to visually underscore the impressive width of the rear of the car which was achieved by drawing on a layering concept.
The approach Ferrari took on the SF90 XX STRADALE’s interior design seems to have concentrated on highlighting the cockpit’s racing style as well as saving considerable weight. The main areas involved are the door panels, tunnel, and mats, which are now simpler in terms of their shape and the chaps in Maranello have decided to use technical fabrics, and carbon-fibre for the functional areas. The upper part of the dashboard is trimmed in Alcantara®, while the lower part is trimmed in technical fabric. Both are inspired by the racing world.
The cocooned feel of the interior cabin along with the driving position seamlessly integrates technical and control functions which creates the optimal environment for the most demanding of track days yet friendly enough for a cruise on the autostrada. The concave sections converge on the dashboard are highlighted by a clever colour contrast and the three louvres in the middle zone. The air vents on the wheel arch work in perfect harmony with the natural curves of the cabin to create an overall dynamic yet sculptural feel.
The specific racing seats designed for the SF90 XX STRADALE and SPIDER boast visible carbon-fibre tubular structures and cushion support to provide a sporty driving experience with the upmost comfort. The design ensures seats look seamless, like a single structure and can be adjusted in multiple ways.
The SF90 XX STRADALE is a piece of art, a feat of engineering and the pinnacle of automotive genius, a true testament to the hard work and talent of the seniori and seniori at Maranello. It is without a doubt a car Enzo Ferrari would be proud of, just like the 125, over 76 years ago.
