Nvidia is gearing up to resume its sales of AI chips to China and has introduced a new model tailored to meet regulatory requirements in the Chinese market.

The announcement comes after Nvidia founder and CEO Jensen Huang visited China where he met with government and industry officials to discuss how AI will raise productivity and expand opportunity. The discussions underscored how researchers worldwide can advance safe and secure AI for the benefit of all.

Nvidia to start delivering AI chips “soon”

Huang also provided an update to customers, noting that Nvidia is filing applications to sell the Nvidia H20 GPU again in China. For its part, the U.S. government has assured Nvidia that licenses will be granted, and Nvidia hopes to start deliveries soon.

Nvidia’s AI chips have been a key focus of U.S. export controls on advanced chips. The company has said the restrictions would cut its revenue by $15 billion. The U.S. government has expressed concern that the Chinese military could use AI chips to develop weapons.

The H20 chip was developed specifically for the Chinese market after U.S. export restrictions were imposed on national security grounds in late 2023. The AI chip was Nvidia’s most powerful legally available product in China until it was banned by Washington in April.

During his visit, Huang also announced a new, fully compliant Nvidia RTX PRO GPU that “is ideal for digital twin AI for smart factories and logistics.” The new AI chip is designed specifically for China and is “fully compliant” with U.S. export controls.

Huang reaffirms commitment to U.S. market

Huang also met with President Trump and U.S. policymakers, reaffirming Nvidia’s support for the administration’s effort to create jobs, strengthen domestic AI infrastructure and onshore manufacturing, and ensure that America leads in AI worldwide.

During his visits, Huang said the world has reached an inflection point — AI has become a fundamental resource, like energy, water and the internet. He also emphasized Nvidia’s commitment to support open-source research, foundation models and applications, which democratize AI and will empower emerging economies in every region, including Latin America, Europe, Asia and beyond.

“General-purpose, open-source research and foundation models are the backbone of AI innovation,” Huang explained to reporters in D.C. “We believe that every civil model should run best on the U.S. technology stack, encouraging nations worldwide to choose America,” he added.
