During a press conference held at QatarEnergy’s headquarters in Doha, H.E. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, minister of State for Energy Affairs, president and CEO of QatarEnergy, revealed the “North Field West” project. Extensive appraisal drilling and testing have confirmed the presence of productive layers in Qatar’s vast North Field, extending towards the west. This favorable discovery paves the way for the development of a new LNG production project in Ras Laffan, with a capacity of approximately 15/16 Mtpa. This will be in addition to the ongoing targets of 77 Mtpa and a projected 127 Mtpa by 2027.

Minister Al-Kaabi emphasized that determining the extent of the North Field’s productive layers towards the west was a priority in order to assess the production potential of those areas.

Furthermore, the Minister announced a significant increase in gas reserves in the North Field, estimated at 240 trillion cubic feet (tcf). This raises Qatar’s gas reserves from 1,760 to over 2,000 tcf. Additionally, condensates reserves will increase from 70 to more than 80 billion barrels. The discovery also includes substantial quantities of liquefied petroleum gas, ethane, and helium, marking a major milestone for Qatar’s gas industry.

As the third-largest LNG exporter globally, Qatar’s total hydrocarbon production is expected to surpass 7.25 million barrels of oil equivalent per day.

QatarEnergy remains committed to advancing various components of the North Field production expansion projects, which encompass North Field East and North Field South.
