Qatar’s trajectory as a premier tourism destination is reaching new heights, as recent data from Qatar Tourism unveils a remarkable surge in international arrivals. With a 53 percent increase in visitors compared to the same period last year, Qatar solidifies its position as an emerging tourism hub, supported by strategic initiatives.
In February, Qatar welcomed 596,000 international visitors, marking a significant rise from 389,000 arrivals in February 2023. This consistent growth trend has been evident since 2022. Moreover, data revealed a 106 percent annual surge in international arrivals in January too.
Diverse points of entry
Qatar Tourism recorded an influx of visitors across various points of entry, with arrivals via sea, land and air routes. January witnessed 703,000 arrivals, with 86,000 arriving by sea, 328,000 by land and 290,000 by air. Similarly, in February, 80,000 visitors arrived by sea, 232,000 by land, and 285,000 by air, demonstrating Qatar’s accessibility and connectivity.
Strategic tourism goals
Qatar’s ambitious tourism goals align with its national strategy, which aims to welcome six million tourists by 2030 and increase the sector’s contribution to GDP from 7 percent to 12 percent. With the country surpassing four million visitors in 2023, these objectives appear well within reach, reflecting Qatar’s commitment to sustainable growth and economic diversification.
Moreover, the 3rd National Development Strategy 2024-2030 positions Qatar’s tourism sector as vital for economic diversification. It focuses on initiatives to bolster sector attractiveness and competitiveness, thereby solidifying Qatar’s reputation as a preferred destination for families.

With Qatar Airways’ extensive connectivity and visa-free access for citizens of 102 countries, the nation’s tourism sector will continue to grow and succeed. The 8th meeting of GCC tourism ministers highlighted the country’s advanced infrastructure, economic stability and strategic geographical location. This positions the region as a leading global tourism destination that attracts visitors from around the world.
