The Riyadh Metro, an integrated public transportation system that connects various parts of the city, is now fully operational and ready to serve passengers across its six lines.

The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) has announced that the Orange Line (Al Madinah Al Munawwarah Axis) commenced operations on Sunday, January 5, 2025.

This line extends from east to west, with its stations running from Jeddah Road to the Second Eastern Ring Road, parallel to Khashm Al Aan in the east, covering a total distance of 41 kilometers.

The inauguration of the Orange Line signifies the conclusion of the phased implementation of all six lines of the Riyadh Metro network, in line with the rollout strategy revealed during the project’s launch.

Beginning Sunday, passengers traveling on the Orange Line can access the following stations: Jeddah Road, Tuwaiq, Al Dawh, Harun Al Rashid Road, and An Naseem – which serves as an interchange linking the Orange and Purple lines. In a separate announcement, RCRC has confirmed the opening of three new stations on the Blue Line (Al Olaya – Al Batha Axis): Al Murooj, Bank Al Bilad, and King Fahad Library.

The operationalization of all six lines of the Riyadh Metro network is set to enhance connectivity throughout the capital, making travel more convenient for both residents and visitors. The network will operate from 6:00 AM to 12:00 AM.

Ticketing and navigation made easy

Passengers can locate their destinations and purchase tickets via the “Darb” mobile application, as well as at ticket offices and self-service machines located at the Riyadh Metro stations.

For additional information, individuals can reach the unified public transport Call Center at 19933, or visit the Riyadh Metro website (https://www.rpt.sa/ar/home) or their social media channels, RCRC said in a statement.

In December 2024, RCRC revealed the launch of two new lines for the Riyadh Metro: the Red Line, which runs along King Abdullah Road, and the Green Line, which follows King Abdulaziz Road. Passengers can access the stations on these lines from 6:00 am until midnight. Now, five out of the six metro lines are fully operational.

The Red Line

The Red Line spans 25.1 kilometers, extending from east to west along King Abdullah Road. It connects King Fahd Sports City to King Saud University, featuring 15 stations, including the Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Center. This line intersects with the Blue Line at the STC Station, the Green Line at the Ministry of Education Station, and the Purple Line at Al Hamra Station.

The Green Line

On the other hand, the Green Line, which runs along King Abdulaziz Road, measures 13.3 kilometers. It stretches from King Abdullah Road, passing the Ministry of Education, all the way to the National Museum. This line includes 12 stations that serve various government entities, such as the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Commerce, along with numerous commercial, service, and residential facilities.

Station accessibility and future operations

All stations on the Green Line were opened to the public on December 15, with the exception of the Ministry of Finance and National Museum stations, which will become operational at a later date. The Green Line intersects with the Red Line at the Ministry of Education Station and with the Blue Line at the National Museum Station.

Upcoming expansion of the metro network

As per the previously announced rollout schedule, the Orange Line, which covers Madinah Road, is set to open on January 5, 2025, thereby completing the Riyadh Metro network. Passengers can easily locate their destinations and purchase tickets via the “Darb” mobile application or directly at the Riyadh Metro stations.
