The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) announced today that the Riyadh Metro has served nearly 18 million passengers, with over 162,000 trips covering approximately 4.5 million kilometers across the six train lines since the network’s inauguration on December 1, 2024.

The commission revealed that the Blue Line—Al-Olaya Al-Batha Axis was the most utilized, recording nearly 10 million passengers during this period. Additionally, the KAFD Station attracted the highest passenger traffic of more than 3 million.

The initial phase of the Riyadh Metro launch witnessed the inauguration of Line 1, the Al Olaya-Al Batha route (the Blue Line), alongside Line 4, King Khalid International Airport Road (Yellow Line), and Line 6, stretching across Abdulrahman bin Auf Road and Sheikh Hassan bin Hussein bin Ali Road (Purple Line), all slated to commence on December 1.

The new network has transformed daily life for Riyadh’s residents, providing easier access to essential points of interest, including schools, hospitals, universities, commercial centers and government facilities. By reducing congestion and vehicle emissions, the Riyadh Metro has greatly improved travel times and supported current and future passenger growth.

Red and Green Lines

In December 2024, RCRC announced the launch of two new lines for the Riyadh Metro: the Red Line, which runs along King Abdullah Road, and the Green Line, which follows King Abdulaziz Road. Passengers can access the stations on these lines from 6:00 am until midnight.

The Riyadh Metro’s Red Line spans 25.1 kilometers, extending from east to west along King Abdullah Road. It connects King Fahd Sports City to King Saud University, featuring 15 stations, including the Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Center. This line intersects with the Blue Line at the STC Station, the Green Line at the Ministry of Education Station, and the Purple Line at Al Hamra Station.

Meanwhile, the Green Line, which runs along King Abdulaziz Road, measures 13.3 kilometers. It stretches from King Abdullah Road, passing the Ministry of Education, all the way to the National Museum. This line includes 12 stations that serve various government entities, such as the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Commerce, along with numerous commercial, service, and residential facilities.

Orange Line

On Sunday, January 5, 2025, the RCRC announced that the Riyadh Metro’s Orange Line (Al Madinah Al Munawwarah Axis) commenced operations. This line extends from east to west, with its stations running from Jeddah Road to the Second Eastern Ring Road, parallel to Khashm Al Aan in the east, covering a total distance of 41 kilometers.

The inauguration of the Orange Line signified the conclusion of the phased implementation of all six lines of the Riyadh Metro network, in line with the rollout strategy revealed during the project’s launch.
