This announcement comes on the heels of Meta’s reveal of Orion, its inaugural augmented reality glasses, last year.

This year’s Samsung Unpacked event shone a spotlight on the future of augmented reality (AR) as Samsung announced a collaboration with Google to develop AR glasses. This partnership promises to integrate cutting-edge technology, enhancing user experiences in a way that could redefine how we interact with the digital world.

However, while the anticipation for various new devices was high, the event primarily showcased the latest in Samsung’s smartphone lineup. The company officially unveiled the Galaxy S25, S25+, and the Galaxy S25 Ultra, generating buzz among tech enthusiasts. Additionally, a teaser for the upcoming S25 Edge was revealed, hinting at more innovative features to come.

The focus on AR glasses indicates Samsung’s commitment to exploring new frontiers in technology, aligning with broader trends in the industry. As the collaboration with Google unfolds, it will be interesting to see how these developments will influence both companies’ futures in the AR space.

This announcement comes on the heels of Meta’s reveal of Orion, its inaugural augmented reality glasses, last year. Although those glasses won’t be available for consumer purchase.

The news regarding the Samsung- and Google-developed AR glasses also follows the announcement of the Project Moohan mixed reality headset. This headset operates on Android XR, which Google recently unveiled for headsets and smart glasses, and Bloomberg reports that the AR glasses will “eventually launch as part of the company’s efforts to co-develop the Android XR operating system.”
