Saudi Arabia is set to announce the launch of a new national air carrier in 2024, as part of the country’s ambitious plan to reach 250 global destinations by 2030. This was confirmed by Awad Al-Sulami, executive vice president for Economic Policies and Logistics Services at the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), on the sidelines of the Future Aviation Forum.
The Future Aviation Forum (FAF 2024) was recently hosted by the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz.
Held under the theme of FAF 2024 is “Elevating Global Connectivity,” the forum aimed to boost aviation collaboration through global partnerships. Furthermore, it sought to drive innovation, promote sustainable air travel, and facilitate cultural exchange.

Addressing ticket price increases, competition
Commenting on the recent increase in domestic ticket prices, GACA’s Al-Sulami stated that this is due to the implementation of economic regulations to promote competition and transparency in the market. He further explained that this will primarily impact supply and demand, and the introduction of new carriers is expected to lead to more competitive pricing.
Advancements in aviation safety
Suleiman Al-Muhaimedi, GACA’s executive vice president for Aviation Safety and Environmental Sustainability, highlighted that Saudi Arabia has achieved record safety indicators over the past 15 years. Additionally, he noted that the Kingdom is a signatory to the Chicago Convention, which sets international standards and recommendations for the aviation sector.
Preparing for rapid growth in air travel
Moreover, Abdulaziz Al-Dahmash, GACA’s executive vice president of Quality and Customer Experience, acknowledged the rapid pace of growth in the aviation industry. He further stated that the target number of travelers by 2030 is three times the current figures, and the Authority has developed programs to measure and ensure a smooth and flexible traveler experience.
