Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) and Airbus have formalized a memorandum of understanding (MoU) centered on environmental sustainability during the 2025 Paris Air Show.
This initiative represents a strategic move towards harmonizing economic development with environmental stewardship, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
The MoU aims to enhance collaboration in sustainability by utilizing innovative technologies to mitigate the aviation sector’s ecological footprint, in line with the goals established by the Civil Aviation Environmental Sustainability Program (CAESP).
The agreement delineates key areas for cooperation, including the sharing of expertise in the application of low-carbon and sustainable aviation fuels, alongside initiatives aimed at cultivating specialized human capacity within the field.

Captain Sulaiman Almuhaimedi, GACA’s executive vice president for Aviation Safety and Environmental Sustainability, emphasized that the signing of the MoU with Airbus signifies a pivotal milestone in the Kingdom’s dedication to fostering a more sustainable and resilient aviation industry.
“This memorandum is designed to address sustainability challenges, promote knowledge transfer, and empower the next generation of Saudi talent to lead the sector’s environmental transformation in the years ahead,” he remarked.
Gabriel Semelas, Airbus president for Africa and the Middle East, highlighted that this partnership marks a meaningful advancement towards creating a more sustainable future for the aviation sector, with the objective of expediting efforts to diminish carbon emissions on both regional and global scales.
