Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) recently issued its latest April report on the performance of domestic and international airports in the Kingdom. The report revealed that King Khalid International Airport secured the top spot in the category of airports welcoming more than 15 million passengers annually, with an 82 percent compliance rate. Following closely came King Abdulaziz International Airport at 82 percent.
Airports serve up to 15 million passengers
In its latest report, GACA revealed that in the category of international airports serving 5 to 15 million passengers annually, King Fahd International Airport and Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz International Airport both ranked first with a 91 percent compliance rate. However, King Fahd International Airport outperformed in terms of its standards rate.
In the category of airports serving two to five million passengers annually, Abha International Airport and King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Airport reached a 100 percent compliance rate. However, Abha International Airport outperformed King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Airport by recording higher targets in multiple evaluation criteria.
In the category of airports serving less than two million passengers annually, Qaisumah International Airport achieved a 100 percent compliance rate. Hence, it outperformed its competitors in terms of average wait times at passport control at both departures and arrivals.
In the domestic airports category, Arar airport ranked first with a 100 percent compliance rate, outperforming all competing airports in terms of average waiting time for departing and arriving flights.

GACA’s evaluation metrics
The GACA report assesses 11 operational performance standards, which align with strategic objectives that aim to enhance services and ensure a seamless traveler experience at Saudi Arabia’s airports. In addition, GACA categorizes airports according to annual passenger numbers to ensure a transparent and fair performance evaluation. The performance standards focus on critical passenger touchpoints such as check-in, security, passport control, customs, baggage claim, and assistance for passengers with reduced mobility (PRM).
GACA’s evaluation metrics ensure a seamless and efficient travel experience for all passengers. By focusing on operational performance standards that align with international best practices, GACA strives to elevate the service quality and operational efficiency of Saudi Arabia’s airports.
