Saudi Aramco, a prominent global energy and chemicals company, has granted engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contracts worth $7.7 billion for an extensive expansion of the Fadhili Gas Plant in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province. This expansion initiative aims to enhance the plant’s processing capacity from 2.5 to a potential 4 billion standard cubic feet per day (bscfd).

By increasing the processing capacity by 1.5 bscfd, the project is aligned with Saudi Aramco’s strategy to elevate gas production by over 60 percent by 2030, in comparison to the levels observed in 2021. Anticipated to be finalized by November 2027, the Fadhili Gas Plant expansion will also augment sulphur production by an additional 2,300 metric tons per day.

Commitment to increasing the supplies of natural gas

According to Wail Al Jaafari, Aramco’s executive vice president of Technical Services, the contracts being awarded demonstrate Aramco’s commitment to increasing the supplies of natural gas, contributing to greenhouse gas emission reduction efforts, and enabling a greater allocation of crude oil for value-added refining and export. Additionally, in collaboration with esteemed international companies, Aramco is making progress towards its objective of boosting gas production. This expansion aligns with Aramco’s aspirations to develop a hydrogen business with reduced carbon emissions, while recognizing the significance of the liquids derived from gas as a crucial raw material for the petrochemical industry, Al Jaafari added.

Moreover, the EPC contracts for the Fadhili Gas Plant increment project have been awarded to SAMSUNG Engineering Company, GS Engineering & Construction Corporation, and Nesma & Partners by Aramco.
