Since its unification by King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al Saud, Saudi Arabia has committed to improving the quality of life of its citizens. Marking Saudi National Day this week, the Kingdom recalls the journey to raise the Saudi quality of life that began with the establishment of a modern state that focuses on infrastructure, education, healthcare and transportation.

During the reign of King Saud, the Kingdom expanded its educational and healthcare sectors, establishing King Saud University and enhancing road networks.

Saudi Aramco sets Kingdom for growth

Under King Faisal’s reign, Saudi Aramco, which would later become one of the largest oil companies globally, and agriculture strengthened the Kingdom’s economy and bolstered food security, further improving Saudi quality of life.

During King Khalid’s reign, the country witnessed a boom in government spending which supported significant improvements in infrastructure and public services. The Kingdom saw the launch of mumerous schools and universities, healthcare services, the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, and Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC), fostering industrial development and creating new job opportunities.

This expansion in education and industrial development across Saudi Arabia has supported the development and improvement of citizens’ quality of life and continues to do so to this day, with Saudization policies in place to raise the contributions of nationals to the economy.

Kingdom sees greater openness

During King Fahd’s reign, Saudi Arabia saw transformative developments, including the launch of governance laws and the Shura Council, the expansion of the two holy mosques, and the development of international airports.

King Abdullah’s reign marked greater openness to the world, with Saudi Arabia joining the World Trade Organization in 2005 and establishing economic cities. His reign also focused on higher education and infrastructure projects, such as the Haramain High-Speed Railway.

Vision 2030 launched

Under the reign of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Vision 2030 came to life. Spearheaded by Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Vision 2030 included comprehensive plans to improve the quality of life across Saudi Arabia.

The vision focuses on pioneering projects in clean energy, environmental sustainability, economic diversification, and the empowerment of women and youth. With these efforts, Vision 2030 is creating a vibrant society that serves as the foundation for a thriving economy and an ambitious nation.
