Sharjah Airport has greeted the inaugural flights of the Saudi airline flynas, adding to the roster of carriers providing scheduled services to and from the airport in the UAE.

This development enhances the international aviation network via Sharjah Airport, catering to the increasing passenger traffic and rising air cargo activity, all supported by the airport’s high-quality and efficient services.

The launch of flynas’s first flight was attended by Sheikh Faisal Bin Saoud Al Qassimi, director of the Sharjah Airport Authority (SAA), alongside Sultan Al Khaldi, KSA sales director at flynas, and other key officials and executives from the Sharjah Airport Authority.

flynas plans to operate seven weekly flights from Jeddah to Sharjah Airport and two weekly flights from Madinah to the Sharjah Emirate, utilizing Boeing 737 aircraft.

Commitment to growth and infrastructure

Ali Salim Al Midfa, chairman of the Sharjah Airport Authority, conveyed his pride in flynas becoming a part of the airport‘s growing network of airlines. He highlighted that the SAA is committed to a long-term strategy aimed at strengthening the airport’s role in the travel and aviation sectors by enhancing its services, infrastructure, and support facilities. This initiative aligns with ongoing efforts on a new expansion project intended to boost the airport’s capacity to accommodate 25 million passengers annually by the end of 2027.

Elevating Sharjah’s tourism profile

Al Midfa also remarked that the growth of travel and aviation through Sharjah Airport, along with an increase in airlines using the airport as a destination, would elevate Sharjah’s tourism profile. The emirate has emerged as an international hub for both economic activity and tourism, attracting visitors from the Gulf, the Arab world, and beyond.

Strengthening ties between UAE and Saudi Arabia

Furthermore, Al Midfa noted that tourism, travel, and cargo exchanges between the UAE and Saudi Arabia are experiencing significant growth. This surge is attributed to the diverse tourism and leisure offerings in both countries, their hosting of numerous major international conferences and events, as well as the robust economic and trade ties that foster investment and business endeavors. Additionally, the flow of pilgrims and Umrah travelers to the holy sites in Saudi Arabia plays a vital role in this growth.
