Sheikh Hamdan approves expansion of ‘Dubai Schools’ project with budget of $144 million

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, has given his approval for the expansion of the ‘Dubai Schools’ project with a budget of AED530 million ($144.29 million). This expansion is in line with the Dubai Social Agenda 33, which was launched by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai.

New school in Al Khawaneej

As part of this project, a new school is being established in Al Khawaneej, and the Dubai Schools Al Barsha branch is currently undergoing expansion. These developments will increase the capacity by over 6,400 seats, 295 classrooms, and 123 laboratories and specialized classrooms. By 2033, the total number of seats offered by ‘Dubai Schools’ will reach 15,000, the Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported.

Enhancing education quality and global positioning

The expansion of the ‘Dubai Schools’ project is aligned with the objectives of the Dubai Social Agenda 33, which aims to enhance the quality of education in Dubai and position the city among the top 10 in the world. In addition, the project seeks to establish a world-class education system in the emirate by increasing the number of schools and seats available, investing in new technologies and facilities, and fostering innovation and creativity in the classroom.

Moreover, the establishment of the Al Khawaneej and Al Barsha schools are direct outcomes of the ‘Dubai Schools’ project. In its first academic year, the project welcomed 1,205 students, which increased to 1,965 students in the second year. Also, by the academic year 2023/2024, the number of enrolled students reached 2,580. The schools have a diverse student body, with representation from 38 different nationalities.

International standard infrastructure

The new school in Al Khawaneej will cover an area of 446,720 square feet and can accommodate 4,028 students from kindergarten to grade 12. Additionally, it will be built according to international standards, with 149 classrooms and 71 laboratories and specialized classrooms equipped with state-of-the-art technologies. The school will also feature various amenities, including three indoor pools, including a semi-Olympic pool, indoor sports halls, a dedicated sports hall for early years, a football pitch adhering to international standards, and five outdoor courts. Additionally, it will have a spacious library spanning 11,800 square feet, enhancing the overall learning environment.

2,408 seats and 98 new classrooms

Furthermore, the expansion of the Al Barsha branch will increase its capacity by adding 2,408 seats through 98 new classrooms, resulting in a total capacity of 3,520 students upon completion. The project also includes two indoor pools, including a semi-Olympic pool, a football pitch complying with international standards, two sports halls, seven versatile outdoor courts, a library covering 6,800 square feet, and 52 laboratories and specialized classrooms.
