The EDITION is a relatively new name in the world of hospitality, but its impact has been undeniable.

Barcelona is one of the jewels of the Mediterranean. This wonderful city offers an immersive blend of vibrant culture, modernity, and rich history. But tucked away in the heart of the city is an oasis that redefines urban luxury—the EDITION Barcelona. In this unique urban resort, the modern meets the sophisticated in a way that feels both intimate and exhilarating.

About Barcelona: The city of contrasts

No stranger to Barcelona’s eclectic charm, I’ve actually been visiting the city for the past 20 years, long before it became the ultra-hip, global hotspot it is today. From the winding medieval streets of El Born to the sun-soaked promenades of La Barceloneta, this is a city where past and present coexist in seamless harmony.

El Born, where the EDITION Barcelona is located, pulses with history. A stone’s throw from the Gothic Quarter (where I lived over two decades ago) and steps away from the world-renowned Picasso Museum, this area is a haven for art lovers, foodies, and history buffs alike. The barrio is alive with the energy of mystical centuries-old buildings, cobblestone streets, and markets like La Boqueria (where I’ve had many a luncheon). The beauty of this part of town is that it’s also close to the city’s nightlife and beaches. Add in the EDITION’s commitment to sustainable tourism, with initiatives like their “Stay Plastic Free” campaign, and you’ve got a destination that appeals to the modern, conscious traveler.

About the brand: A new era in hospitality

The EDITION is a relatively new name in the world of hospitality, but its impact has been undeniable. Founded by Ian Schrager—a pioneer who revolutionized the hotel industry with the creation of the boutique hotel concept—the brand has established a collection of 15 unique locations worldwide, including in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Schrager’s vision is clear: a space where guests experience modern luxury, but without pretension.

At the EDITION Barcelona, that vision further manifests in the hotel’s seamless combination of a sophisticated boutique-style retreat and a full-service urban resort. It’s a place where both Generation Z, discerning baby boomers and everyone in between feel equally at home, surrounded by personalized service and stunning design. The charm is quite enchanting, great art on the walls, a warm inviting lobby and staff that come with genuine smiles.

The food: Dining at its finest

The EDITION Barcelona is home to three exceptional restaurants, one of which occupies the rooftop and offers arguably the best views in the city. The culinary offerings here are a celebration of local flavors, presented with innovation and flair. I can vouch for it having experienced it after my long flight from Dubai.

At the heart of the hotel’s gastronomic scene is Veraz, led by Executive Chef Pedro Tassarolo. Trained at the world-renowned Mugaritz and El Bulli. Tassarolo brings his exceptional culinary skills to a menu that fuses traditional Spanish and Mediterranean flavors with creative Asian influences. I had the pleasure of dining here both for breakfast and dinner, and I can’t recommend the Eggs and Patatas Bravas enough to start your day. For dinner, it’s impossible to pick just one dish—there’s an abundance of culinary delights, all paired with a formidable wine list. Much to my pleasure a recent update I heard about the restaurant, is that the culinary collaboration with renowned chef Martina Puigvert Puigdevall, who is famously known for her innovative approach to Catalan cuisine at the two-Michelin-starred Les Cols has been renewed for another year.

Punch Room, an import from the London EDITION, is another standout. While some might choose it for an after-dinner drink, I actually went to the speakeasy-inspired bar post-midnight with a dear friend who resides in Barcelona. This unique space further boasts oak-paneled walls, a black granite fireplace, and deep velvet seats. For me it was the perfect combination of elegance and a cozy atmosphere. They have a curated menu of creative punches and small bites, all delightful.

The Rooms: Where modern luxury meets tranquil comfort

The EDITION Barcelona features 100 rooms and suites, each offering spectacular views of the city’s skyline, Gothic Quarter, and El Born district. The design throughout the hotel is a perfect reflection of modern luxury, with touches that pay homage to the city’s architectural heritage. On that note, I do want to add that The EDITION’s geographical fine tuning of furniture style is something I really enjoyed.

The rooms boast custom-designed furniture and give a feeling of a sanctuary thanks to the walnut wood paneling and crisp white oak floors. For the ultimate indulgence, the two stunning penthouses take luxury to new heights, each offers a private terrace with lounge areas and dining furniture, should you wish to dine al fresco or soak in the Catalan sun.

An unforgettable experience

The EDITION Barcelona isn’t just a place to stay—it’s an experience. Take my word for it, the location is great, the design unmatched, it has great dining, and that all important feeling of quiet luxury. Having managed to combine and balance both vibrant and serene, a true oasis in one of Europe’s most dynamic cities.
