The majority of Twitter shareholders voted in favor of selling Twitter to American businessman Elon Musk for $44 billion, according to media reports.

Musk informed Twitter that he would not move forward with the acquisition, claiming that the firm had misled him about spam accounts on the platform and that he had not been informed of a financial settlement the company had reached with one of its top executives.

The two parties are scheduled to square off in court on October 17.
