The U.K. government has unveiled a comprehensive 400-page catalog of American products that might face retaliatory tariffs as a countermeasure to the duties imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump on British imports.
In a statement, the U.K. government clarified that not every item on the list would automatically be subjected to future tariffs. They noted their measured approach to the 10 percent tariffs enacted by Washington, highlighting that this rate is among the lowest imposed on any country.
The published list features roughly 8,000 items that could be affected by future retaliatory duties, which accounts for about 27 percent of British imports from the United States. This list will be available for consultation with businesses for a period of four weeks.

The indicative list encompasses products such as binoculars, auto parts, and food items, including meat, dairy, and fish. Additionally, the list outlines the potential for tariffs on steel, plants, and various materials and chemicals. Furthermore, among the more unusual items included are pure-bred breeding horses, fish waste, toilet paper, and gloves that are “impregnated, coated, covered or laminated with rubber, knitted or crocheted.”
U.K.’s commitment to negotiations
U.K. Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds reiterated that the United Kingdom is dedicated to negotiating an agreement with the United States to mitigate the effects of the new tariffs. He also stressed that London does not plan to implement immediate retaliatory actions.
Moreover, the U.S. President Donald Trump announced this week a broad array of tariffs on U.S. imports from multiple countries, with the intention of bolstering the American manufacturing sector. The new tariffs further include a 34 percent duty on imports from China, 20 percent on those from the European Union, alongside various other rates affecting several countries, with a baseline 10 percent tariff applied to all U.S. imports.
