UAE holidays 2024: When is the next long weekend?
The next public holiday will be for the UAE National Day

The UAE is now approaching the end of summer, and the country’s residents and citizens have already enjoyed most of the holidays this year. UAE residents recently observed a one-day holiday for the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) this Sunday.

Public holidays in the UAE so far this year

Until now, UAE residents have enjoyed holidays for New Year’s Day on January 1, Eid Al Fitr (three-day holiday from April 8 for the private sector), Arafah Day and Eid Al Adha (four-day holiday from June 15), and a one-day holiday on July 7 for the Islamic New Year. Meanwhile, the last holiday was on September 15 for the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him.)

When is the next holiday in UAE?

UAE residents will now observe a two-day break for the UAE’s 53rd National Day, on December 2 and 3 (Monday and Tuesday). When clubbed with the weekend, UAE residents will be able to enjoy a four-day break.

UAE National Day

The UAE’s National Day falls on December 2. This is the day when the rulers of the emirates signed a unification agreement to create the United Arab Emirates, thus transforming the separate states into one thriving nation.
‘Spirit of the Union’ is the official theme of the UAE’s National Day celebrations.

Long weekends in 2024

In 2024, the UAE offered several long weekends that were perfect for planning trips and vacations. These extended breaks occur when a public holiday falls on a Friday or a Monday, creating a long weekend. Here are some of the long weekends to look forward to:

  • Eid Al Fitr (April 2024): Public sector employees enjoyed a week-long holiday, while private sector employees got three days.
  • Eid Al Adha (June 2024): Employees of both public and private sector got a holiday from June 15, Saturday, until June 18, Tuesday.
  • UAE National Day (December 2-3, 2024): Celebrating the country’s independence and unity, this two-day weekend is a time for national pride and festivities.

These long weekends are a ideal opportunity for residents and citizens to relax, recharge, and spend quality time with loved ones. Whether you’re planning a short getaway or simply enjoying a staycation, these breaks provide the perfect chance to unwind.

Understanding UAE public holidays

UAE public holidays are a vital part of the country’s cultural and religious calendar, observed by both the public and private sectors. These holidays are determined by the UAE government and include significant Islamic holidays like Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha, which are based on moon sightings. This means the exact dates can sometimes change, adding an element of anticipation to the holiday planning.

Understanding UAE public holidays is crucial for effective planning and compliance with UAE labor laws. It’s also important for appreciating the cultural and religious significance of these holidays, which are deeply embedded in the UAE’s identity and heritage.
