The World Economic Forum (WEF) and the Saudi Space Agency have joined forces to pioneer the establishment of the Center for Space Futures, slated to open this autumn. Hosted by the Saudi Space Agency, the initiative aims to facilitate public-private discussions on space collaboration, integrating best practices from the WEF and its communities into the global space sector. Moreover, it seeks to propel forward-looking contributions to accelerate space technologies.
Sustainable space economy
Dr. Mohammed Altamimi, CEO of the Saudi Space Agency, underscored the Center for Space Futures’ commitment to nurturing a vibrant, prosperous, and sustainable space economy on a global scale. Hence, it seeks to develop guiding principles, expand knowledge, refine models and cultivate partnerships. Therefore, the center aims to responsibly harness the vast opportunities of space exploration and utilization.
Harnessing space for Earth’s benefit
For his part, Jeremy Jurgens, managing director of the WEF, emphasized the significant impact of the global space sector on Earth. From monitoring the effects of climate change to enhancing human connectivity through satellite technology, space technology is crucial. Jurgens also highlighted the pivotal role of the Center for Space Futures in driving discussions and initiatives that leverage space advancements for the betterment of humanity.

WEF’s C4IR Network
The Center for Space Futures will seamlessly integrate into the Forum’s broader network, known as the Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR) Network. This integration reflects the recognition of space technological innovation as a critical component of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The Centre will address a wide range of topics, including policies, regulations, and sustainability, in alignment with the objectives of the C4IR Network.
Moreover, the Center for Space Futures is the first network in the C4IR Network to exclusively focus on space. It will work with the existing center in the Kingdom (C4IR Saudi Arabia) to advance Saudi Vision 2030. Hence, Saudi Arabia’s vision seeks to achieve economic diversification, global engagement, and a better quality of life.
