During his participation at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Special Meeting, Minister of Health Fahad Al-Jalajel highlighted the need for proactive measures to address future challenges the climate poses on health. Al-Jalajel also called for cooperation to mitigate the impact of epidemics and emergencies.
The future of global health
During a WEF panel on the future of global health, Al-Jalajel stated that Saudi Arabia has effective sectorial collaboration in all policies through the ministerial committee for health. Hence, it integrates health, justice and sustainability in all decision-making processes. This improves the Kingdom’s overall health status. Moreover, Al-Jalajel stressed the crucial role Saudi Arabia plays regionally and globally in contributing to a polio-free world.
In addition, he emphasized that the steps the world took toward eradicating polio signify progress and show hope for a healthier future. A polio-free world would be a significant success and a testament to global cooperation, with the Kingdom playing a pivotal role.
Addressing global health challenges
During the WEF Special Meeting, Al-Jalajel highlighted antimicrobial resistance as a silent epidemic that requires urgent attention. Therefore, he urged attendees to participate in the fourth Global High-Level Ministerial Conference on Antimicrobial Resistance, which the Kingdom will host between November 15 and 16.
He also stressed the need to confront global health challenges and learn from past experiences to mitigate the impact of pandemics and emergencies. “Let us remain committed to making a healthier and more resilient planet for future generations. Remember that this investment in global health is not just a benefit; it is a strategic necessity for a prosperous and more resilient future,” Al-Jalajel added.

MoU with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation
During his participation at the WEF Special Meeting, Al-Jalajel announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Saudi Ministry of Health and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. This collaboration focuses on several areas, including disease monitoring, diagnostic tools, safe health solutions, and technical assistance to enhance vaccine production capacity in Saudi Arabia. The MoU aims to improve access to lower-cost vaccines for low- and middle-income countries, combat polio, and contribute to global preparedness and response to pandemics.
