The World Economic Forum (WEF)’s AI Governance Alliance has launched the AI Governance Alliance report series, titled “Industries in the Intelligent Age.” This series delivers an extensive roadmap designed for businesses and governments aiming to adopt and scale artificial intelligence (AI). Comprising nine reports, this initiative explores industry trends, showcases successful applications, and pinpoints critical enablers, all while providing actionable insights to promote innovation, enhance competitiveness, and encourage sustainable growth.
Introduction of Frontier MINDS to scale high-impact AI solutions
In conjunction with the report series, the Forum has also launched Frontier MINDS (Meaningful, Intelligent, Novel, Deployable Solutions), a new platform aimed at scaling replicable, high-impact AI use cases from around the globe. This program is dedicated to developing solutions for crucial global challenges, including equitable access to healthcare, climate change, the transition to sustainable energy, resilient supply chains, and workforce transformation. As part of this initiative, the AI Governance Alliance is collaborating with the Forum’s GAEA (Giving to Amplify Earth Action) initiative to promote AI-driven solutions focused on climate impact and sustainable wealth management. Nominations for Frontier MINDS are currently open, with the first cohort expected to be announced at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2025.
Transformative potential of AI
“AI holds transformative potential to address society’s most pressing challenges, but unlocking this requires informed, adaptable and responsible policy-making,” stated Cathy Li, head of AI, Data and the Metaverse at the World Economic Forum. “Our new report series and the Frontier MINDS programme aim to provide industry leaders and policy-makers with the insights needed to develop and scale AI solutions that can drive sustainable societal and economic progress while ensuring no one is left behind.”
Comprehensive view of AI’s impact across industries
The AI Governance Alliance report series includes five reports that focus on specific industries and functions, along with four additional reports that explore broader cross-industry or regional trends. Together, these reports offer a detailed perspective on AI’s transformative potential and strategies for unlocking it.
“Artificial intelligence is a transformative force driving smarter decisions and unlocking new possibilities across industries,” remarked Ramon Laguarta, chief executive officer of PepsiCo. “From sustainable supply chains to personalized consumer experiences, AI is woven into PepsiCo’s operations to enable innovation and impact. The World Economic Forum’s report series provides essential guidance for deploying AI responsibly, fostering collaboration and solutions that advance business growth while delivering meaningful societal benefits.”
Addressing challenges in AI implementation
The report series also confronts various challenges associated with AI, including scalability obstacles, fragmented infrastructure, restricted data access, workforce preparedness, ethical concerns, increasing energy demands, and trust in AI systems. The AI Governance Alliance addresses these issues throughout the entire AI value chain, complementing the series with a dedicated focus on governance and regulations to ensure a comprehensive approach to responsible AI development. The Alliance is further committed to leveraging these insights to tackle systemic challenges posed by AI, uniting stakeholders to create collaborative solutions to these issues.
“We will see more and more real-world applications of industrial AI transforming manufacturing, infrastructure, transportation, or the energy and healthcare sector,” stated Roland Busch, chief executive officer of Siemens AG. “This technology emerges at a critical time, as industries face skilled labor shortages and productivity is stagnating in most advanced economies. Unlocking its full potential will require collaboration across industries to ensure AI creates sustainable growth and drives meaningful innovation.”
