After moving to the Wolves in 2017, the Portuguese football star played a key role in helping the club secure promotion from the Championship in his first season. Since then, he has made 253 appearances for the club, scoring a total of 30 goals.

Joining Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema, other football stars like N’Golo Kanté, Hakim Ziyech, Benjamin Mendy, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Samuel Umtiti have also been rumored to be considering moves to Saudi Arabia to enjoy football and lucrative salaries.

Interestingly, Lionel Messi, the Argentine football superstar, also has ties to Saudi Arabia. According to the New York Times, a version of his contract with Saudi’s tourism authority reveals that he could potentially earn up to 22.5 million euros (about $25 million) over three years for a few commercial appearances, social media posts, and all-expenses-paid vacations to the Kingdom with his family. In return, he is expected to promote Saudi Arabia through his online presence, with a designated hashtag.

After his contract with Paris Saint-Germain came to an end, Lionel Messi confirmed that he intends to join Inter Miami, an MLS team, rejecting offers from Barcelona and Saudi’s Al-Hilal. On June 7, Al-Hilal launched a last-minute offensive to block Lionel Messi from signing for Inter Miami, and have raised their offer to the Argentine to €1.5 billion ($1.6 billion) according to reports.
