Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, the World Utilities Congress 2025 will officially open tomorrow, May 27 at ADNEC Center Abu Dhabi.
Hosted by Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA) and organised by dmg events, the three-day congress convenes under the central theme: Innovating for a New Age of Utilities.
Global gathering for a new energy era
Spanning over 20,000 square meters, this year’s edition is expected to attract more than 18,000 attendees, 1,400 delegates, and 500 expert speakers from across the global energy and water value chains. The event serves as a critical platform to advance collaboration, sustainability, and innovation across electricity, water, and energy transition sectors.

High-level participation and strategic dialogue
The congress will feature a powerful lineup of global energy and policy leaders addressing the sector’s most pressing challenges and opportunities. Key speakers include:
- H.E. Suhail Al Mazrouei, UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure
- Engineer Mohamed Al Hammadi, managing director and CEO, Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC)
- Francesco La Camera, director-general, International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)
- Angela Wilkinson, secretary-general and CEO, World Energy Council
- Jasim Thabet, group CEO and managing director, TAQA
These decision-makers will help steer discussions on how to meet soaring global electricity demand, support renewable integration, and build resilience in water and energy systems.
Responding to urgent global challenges
With global electricity consumption projected to more than double by 2050, the congress will explore how utility providers can keep pace with the rising demand spurred by digitalization, electrified mobility, and urban expansion.
Topics will include designing flexible, digitally enabled grids; financing large-scale infrastructure projects; ensuring affordable and reliable services in complex markets; scaling resilient water management systems.

Showcasing game-changing technologies
The World Utilities Congress 2025 will shine the spotlight on next-generation technologies poised to transform the utilities landscape.
Attendees can expect deep dives into artificial intelligence (AI) for energy efficiency; advanced desalination and water reuse; green hydrogen production and distribution; decentralised energy systems and microgrids.
These innovations will be assessed in tandem with the regulatory frameworks and investment strategies needed to enable large-scale, real-world impact.
TAQA’s Community Day: Empowering people and places
In line with the UAE Year of Community, TAQA will lead a dedicated Community Day during the congress, turning the Innovation Hub into a showcase of people-centric utilities solutions.
This initiative highlights how the sector enhances quality of life, drives inclusive growth, and supports the broader goals of sustainable development and social empowerment.

Reinforcing the UAE’s global leadership
Speaking ahead of the event, Christopher Hudson, President of dmg events, said: “Now more than ever, the utilities sector is being asked to respond with speed, resilience, and innovation. The World Utilities Congress brings together a global community of leaders who are focused on turning those expectations into outcomes.
“From accelerating the integration of renewables to building more connected and climate-resilient systems, this event is about enabling real collaboration and laying the groundwork for progress across energy and water.”
The World Utilities Congress 2025 reinforces the UAE’s role as a global player in energy and water transformation. By connecting stakeholders from government, industry, and academia, the event seeks to catalyze integrated, cross-sector action and foster the partnerships needed to secure a sustainable, equitable future for utilities in the region and around the world.
