In 2024, passkey is emerging as a transformative alternative to traditional passwords. X (formerly Twitter), in addition to companies like Apple, Microsoft, and Google are embracing passwordless logins. In an effort to ensure security, X has recently introduced passkey to eleminate the need for entering passwords.
Convenient security solution
X has joined the passkey movement, allowing iOS users on iPhones and iPads to experience this innovative security feature. Currently, passkey is only available to users in the United States. The feature relies on the device’s security features such as Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode. The feature is designed to eliminate the need for entering passwords, making the login process smoother and more secure.
How to set up a Passkey
To create a passkey on X, users can navigate through the app following a simple set of steps. First, users need to log in to their desired account. Users can then access the passkey feature through ‘Your account’. Then , users need to enter Settings and Privacy> Security and account access > Security > Additional password protection. The process involves generating both a public and private key which enhances security measures.
Once the passkey setup is complete, users can enjoy a seamless login experience across all devices signed into the same iCloud account. Hence, public key verification ensures a secure and efficient identity verification process, reinforcing X’s commitment to user-friendly security measures.
X’s expansion plans
While the passkey feature is currently available in the U.S. only, X has not disclosed the timeline for its extension to Android or other countries. Simultaneously, X has achieved its 15th money transmitter license in the U.S., bringing Elon Musk’s vision of X as the “everything app” closer to realization.
Moreover, X is rolling out a new feature for Android users including the ability to make audio and video calls directly from the app. Exclusive to premium users, this feature marks another step towards X’s goal of offering a comprehensive user experience.
