Saudi’s General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) revealed on Wednesday that the country’s consumer price index (also known as inflation) increased by 2.2 percent on an annual basis in May, which is a slight decrease from the 2.3 percent increase in April.

According to a statement, the food and beverage industry grew by 4.2 percent, and transportation costs increased by 4 percent.

GASTAT further noted that the spike in the food and beverage sector “had a substantial impact on the rise in annual inflation in May 2022, due to the sector’s weight in the index (18.8 percent).”
