Jeddah Central Development Company (JCDC) signed 4 construction contracts worth SAR12 billion ($3.2 billion) for  3 major architectural landmarks. These include a stadium, an opera house, and an oceanarium alongside infrastructure and utility facilities, marking phase one of the Jeddah Central destination.

International tourist destination

The CEO of JCDC, Engineer Ahmed Abdulaziz Al-Salim, explained that the landmarks’ construction work and infrastructure for the first phase will begin according to the plan that aims to transform downtown Jeddah into a global tourist destination. It also reflects the commitment of JCDC to achieve the goals of Vision 2030 and contribute to advancing the national economy. Hence, JCDC aims to contribute by diversifying sources of income, creating job opportunities for Saudis, and providing cultural, entertainment, and sports destinations for the residents and visitors of Jeddah.

Al-Salim added that the construction contracts for the landmarks and the infrastructure work relied on very high standards of governance and transparency. All the companies signed the contracts after proving prior eligibility and experience in implementing projects following international best practices.

International standards of quality and safety

For his part, JCDC’s project executive director, Engineer Mardi Al-Mansour, explained that it took more than 7 million safe working hours to prepare and equip the construction sites and marine infrastructure implementation work. Moreover, all the work was done following international standards of quality and safety. The construction also follows sustainability standards according to the National Center for Environmental Compliance and the National Center for Wildlife. Besides, more than 150 engineers from JCDC’s project management team are supervising the construction.

Jeddah Central Development Company

Jeddah Central Development Company (JCDC) was established in 2019. It is the main developer of the Central Jeddah destination, a 5.7 million square meters destination in the heart of the city. Central Jeddah is a model of development that contributes to enriching the national economy and improving the quality of life in Jeddah in particular and Saudi Arabia in general. The destination takes advantage of its distinctive geographical location on the banks of the Red Sea. Hence, it extends from the north of Al Salam Palace till the end of the water desalination plant. It is also close to Mecca and Medina, which millions of visitors from around the world visit.

JCDC’s Central Jeddah will open its doors to visitors by the end of 2027. The destination will include several diverse architectural landmarks, such as the opera house, sports stadium, and oceanarium. In addition, it will include several facilities such as a sandy beach, pier, sea promenade, and yacht marina.
