Users can get a sneak peek of the program. Typing out “threads” into the search box, a ticket icon appears. If the user taps it, a personalized spinning ticket pops up to reveal the launch time in your local time zone, which is expected to be 10AM ET on the 6th of July. A QR code also comes up, linking the user to threads.net, the social media platform’s web portal.

Versions of the text-based conversation app will be available for download on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. A description from the App Store writes: “Say more with Threads — Instagram’s text-based conversation app. Threads are where communities come together to discuss everything from the topics you care about today to what’ll be trending tomorrow.”
Users can log in with their Instagram handle, in turn connecting users to the accounts they follow on Instagram to the new app. Other features include reposting and liking posts, and allowing users to limit who can reply to posts. It must be pointed out that the amount of data Threads will be collecting from users is quite plentiful. Instagram’s existing app features the same data collection notice.
Is it the end of Twitter?
Threads was originally the name of a messaging app that Meta launched in 2019 to compete with Snapchat. The app was dismantled, but Meta kept the branding. Threads will join BlueSky and Mastodon, other platforms competing against Twitter. Following Musk’s appointment as CEO of Twitter, many advertisers have paused or reduced spending on the platform.
